Tough Battle in Casablanca
Tanzania’s women’s national football team, Twiga Stars, face a tough opening match against South Africa on their journey to the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) finals. The match kicks off today at 8 pm EAT, or 3 pm local time in Morocco.
Twiga Stars' ambition for this year's tournament is clear: reaching the knockout stage for the first time in their history. This goal is set amid a tough Group B that also includes Ivory Coast and Burkina Faso. Coach Bakari Shime has targeted a semifinal run as part his ambition to secure an important qualification slot for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The challenge? Arguably the hardest group in WAFCON.
