South Africa internationals deliver goals and assists in key club matches

Bafana Bafana players contributed with goals and assists for Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns this week, building form before the November qualifier.

South Africa's international players delivered key performances for their clubs this week, with goals and assists across domestic competitions.

Tshepang Moremi made the most telling contribution. The Orlando Pirates forward came off the bench at halftime against TS Galaxy on Tuesday and scored in a commanding 3-0 Premier Soccer League victory. His teammate Oswin Appollis also started that match and provided an assist before being substituted in the 55th minute. It was a swift response from the Pirates contingent after a difficult 2-0 defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns in the 8 Cup just three days earlier.

Sundowns stars in form

Mamelodi Sundowns, packed with Bafana regulars, enjoyed a productive week. Midfielder Teboho Mokoena scored in the 2-0 cup win over Pirates last Saturday. Striker Iqraam Rayners then took centre stage, coming off the bench to score in that match before starting and netting a brace in a 4-1 league win against Richards Bay on Tuesday. Goalkeeper Ronwen Williams and defender Tholo Matuludi played every minute of both victories, maintaining a solid defensive foundation.

Other South Africa internationals logged important minutes. Olwethu Makhanya played the full 90 minutes for Rangers in their 3-1 Scottish Premiership win over Kilmarnock.

Building towards November

This club form arrives at an ideal time. The national team is preparing for a World Cup qualifier against Kenya at home on 11 November. South Africa heads into that match with momentum, having secured a 1-0 away win against Egypt in their last outing on 4 October. Pule Dithejane scored the decisive goal in that victory, which extended the team's unbeaten run.

Broos will be pleased to see his players competing and contributing at club level. The consistency of Williams and Matuludi at the back, combined with the attacking output from Rayners and Moremi, offers a strong base for selection.
