The passing of legendary actor Seputla Sebogodi leaves many saddened, but amongst those closest to him, his legacy is already being felt as he used his final days to advance the arts across South Africa. His commitment extended beyond accolades and public appearances.
According to Member of Parliament Donald Selamolela, during his final conversations with Sebogodi, the actor focused on the difficulties faced by South African performers. Rather than discussing his own health, Sebogodi spoke passionately about strengthening South Africa’s arts sector, ensuring creatives received recognition and protection they deserved. He fervently believed artists should have a strong voice in shaping the nation and preserving South Africa's cultural heritage, urging fellow artists to come together and fight for better support for creatives. Selamolela has also taken aim at the spread of unverified social media posts about Sebogodi’s health before his passing - he revealed that after hearing alarming claims online, he contacted the actor's wife Rosina who reassured him Sebogodi had returned from hospital, was recovering and hoped to see him soon.
